The California HealthCare Foundation and the Spanish-language newspaper, La Opinion, have created a special Spanish-language supplement about the quality of care in California hospitals.

The supplement, "La Eleccion Del Hospital Guia Comparativa Para El Usuario," expands upon the results of a statewide survey of 35,000 people who spent at least one night in a participating hospital. The survey, sponsored by the California HealthCare Foundation and the California Institute for Health Systems Performance, asked patients to assess their experience in seven categories: respect for patient preferences; coordination of care; information and education: physical comfort; emotional support; involvement of family and friends; and transition to home. Hospitals received a one to three-star rating based on patients’ evaluations.

The supplement will be distributed throughout California through a network of Spanish-language newspapers and will be available free of charge through a toll-free number (1-888-430-2423) and through participating organizations that serve Californians and their families.
